Peace in our time

Most know about The United States of America and Russia; As famous as they are, they both have strong nuclear arsenals which could decimate the world at any given moment. On Tuesday, Russia stated that they would agree to their proposal to extend their ongoing treaty, which freezes the production and testing of atomic bombs. Before this, both the USA and Russia rejected each other’s modified terms for the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) that expires in February 2021. The Russian Foreign Ministry will sign the deal If the USA doesn’t put forth any additional demands. The START was signed previously in 2010 by both countries’ former presidents, Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev. The treaty states that no signatory can keep more than 1,550 deployed nuclear warheads and 700 deployed missiles/ bombers.

Well, how is this treaty a peacekeeper? As we mentioned previously, both Russia and the United States have a massive arsenal and this treaty prevents them from expanding it. Many treaties such as these have been signed to maintain world peace and unity. Another treaty is the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty) which aims to prevent the spread of these weapons. The UN’s DISEC committee’s main goal is to eradicate nuclear weapons.

To conclude, we should make sure these weapons do not fall into the wrong hands, as they are dangerous and agreements like these should be made to help maintain world peace.

US Election

The second presidential debate took place on 22nd October Thursday and is the last time the candidates face off before the election on 3rd November. This debate was much more civilised than the last one, with both Biden and Trump reducing their attacks on each other greatly. The main topics discussed were North Korea, COVID-19, racism, the foreign money which both candidates received from unexplained sources, and climate change. Joe Biden talked mainly about how curbing the virus should be the main goal, while Trump insisted the economy must be opened. Donald Trump spoke about the good relations between the US and North Korea, while Joe Biden called Kim Jong Un a thug. Trump insisted on using natural gas, while Biden supported windmills. In conclusion, both candidates were civil and put valid points onto the table as America prepares to vote in almost a week now.

A jaguar which was horribly burned in the fires in Brazil’s Pantanal wetlands a few months back has now returned to the wild after one month of intensive training. Members of the team treated the jaguar's paws with ozone and laser therapies. He was released at the same spot from where he was taken, which was along the river Encontro das Aguas nature reserve in central-western Brazil. His name is Ousado which in Portuguese means daring or bold.

The five-year-old jaguar was placed in a crate near the river bank. The handlers opened the door of the crate safely away from the boat. Once Ousado left the crate he examined the surroundings and then ran into the forest, making the team extremely joyful. "When we found him, he was in a lot of pain. He couldn't walk properly. Today, he was back to normal. He ran right up the bank. We're very happy with the result," said one of the team members. The Pantanal is known for its vast biodiversity, it is the largest wetland on earth and stretches from Brazil into Bolivia and Paraguay. It is estimated that 23 per cent of the Pantanal has gone in smoke this year. Another wounded jaguar is currently receiving treatment at the same facility. Jaguars are an endangered species, and with their habitat going into flames, there is not much hope left for these stunning creatures.

The Blacklist

Directed by: Joe Carnahan

Rating: ★★★★

Age: 14+,

Genre: Crime; Thriller; Action

Available On: Netflix

Review: Every new episode calls for the rise of a new devil, a new enmity, that brings to light the entire spider web that holds together the underworld, that connects to the FBI- and yet, spiderwebs are always more complicated, more intricate, than they look. Raymond Reddington is a Wanted criminal- Big Time- and it all starts when he turns himself in to the FBI, stating that he will give the Men a list, the Blacklist, of names of criminals that are doing wrong, ones the police and their counterparts have been searching for for years and ones that they haven’t even discovered yet. But of course, with such a heavy plate of Gold, Reddington demands to meet, and speak to only, only, Elizabeth Keene, whose relationship with this man turns out to be a web of its own. Highly recommend watching if you like the genre’s listed above. However, do pay attention to the age limit as this series holds events and arguments not suitable for children under a certain age. This series is great to watch on a late night with your family and brings forth to the table myriad conspiracies and concepts that may or may not be true- in reality and in this game, which is really what this entire selection can be mocked into calling, A Game- a rude, suspicious, argumentative, searching, killing game.
