State Elections in India

Last Saturday, the ECI (Election Committee of India) announced the schedule for the assembly elections in states such as Goa, Punjab, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. UP or Uttar Pradesh will conduct the elections in 7 phases; the poles will be conducted from February 10th to March 7th. At the same time, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa will vote in a single phase on February 14th. However, Manipur will vote in 2 phases on February 27th and March 3rd. The poll body also declared that the counting will be on March 10th. Elections will be held for 403 assembly seats in UP, 117 in Punjab, 70 in Uttarakhand, 60 in Manipur, and 40 in Goa. The elections will be a challenge due to the spread of the Omicron variant. However, all measures have been taken into consideration and this is a well thought out decision.
Vaccination for teenagers in India

Earlier, the Indian government announced that vaccines will be given for children aged 15-18, a huge move and the first sign of vaccinations in minors in India. Anyone born in 2007 or earlier is now eligible for the vaccine and should get vaccinated now. The child could register by creating a new COWIN account and entering all the necessary details on this online portal, or could simply use their parent's COWIN account and register from there. Cases of a few symptoms such as fever, and body pain in some areas have been reported by those who take the vaccine, but it is indeed mild and will go away after a few days. The PM also announced in the same session that a 'precautionary dose', which is more popularly known as a booster dose can be taken for frontline workers as well as for patients with comorbidities above the age of 60. Ever since the beginning of vaccinations almost a year ago in India, vaccination stocks were always on the lower side and the shortages wouldn't end. However, India is now comfortably vaccinating most of its population, having administered 141 crore doses since its inception, which is slightly over India's current population. For anyone out there eligible for the vaccine, it is highly recommended that you take the vaccine, as it has been proven to work against Omicron, and is our only protection against future variants.
